Description
The literature of Anarchism knows no more eminent figure than Kropotkin who was born of Russian royalty in Moscow in 1842. A member of the International Workingmen's Association he later became an intellectual convert to anarchism.
He published such well-known papers and pamphlets as LE REVOLTE and FREEDOM in addition to many short works, newspaper articles, and lectures.
Expelled from Switzerland, he was arrested in France and sentenced to prison but as a result of vigorous agitation on his behalf was released and took up residence in London. He later returned to Moscow where he eventually died in 1921.
Kropotkin called his teachings "Anarchism" denoting an absence of domination and not "disorder" being from the Greek origins and spelled an-archie. And in fact "the word anarchie, which negates the whole of this so-called order and reminds us of the fairest moments in the lives of the nations, is well chosen... looks forwards to conquering a better future."
