Description
Brewster Kneen is internationally recognized as Canada's foremost expert on the food system. Born in Ohio, he began his political education as a naval officer; his formal studies were in economics and theology. A Canadian since 1965, he has worked as a peace activist, radio broadcaster, social justice organizer, and corporate critic. In 1971 Brewster moved to Nova Scotia, with his wife Cathleen and their two children, where they raised cattle and built up a large commercial sheep farm. Brewster was active in farm politics and cooperative marketing. In 1986 they left the farm and returned to Toronto where they continue to publish the *Ram's Horn*, a monthly newsletter of food system analysis. *FROM LAND TO MOUTH* tell the story of the global food system which, following its own logic of distancing, provides abundance for the wealthy - while producing starvation and ecological disaster. With irony and clarity, the beliefs which hold people captive are exposed and demystified, and a vision of alternatives emerges. *FROM LAND TO MOUTH* enables readers to begin to create localized, sustainable food systems built on justice and community.
