Description
"Quebec's love affair with mega projects is no passing thing." Since the signing of the James Bay Agreement between the Cree, Hydro Quebec and the Société de l'Energie de la Baie James in 1973, by which over 350000 square km of land were sold to raise money for schools and hospitals some 2 years after development had already started in the area, the encroachment of Hydro Quebec and forestry and mining companies has increased in scale and consequence to the Cree and Inuit of what is now called northern Quebec. This documentary details some of the outcomes of this environmental racism, including toxicity and poisoning in rising mercury levels of dammed waters, and flooding and destruction of traditional trapping grounds. Documentary. Approx. 57 mins.
